Windies crash to embarrassing innings defeat
HOBART, Australia (CMC) – West Indies produced a typically inept batting display to crash to an embarrassing innings and 212-run defeat to Australia inside three days at the Bellerive Oval here Saturday.
Resuming their first innings on 207 for six, the Caribbean side were dismissed for 223 with left-hander Darren Bravo converting his overnight 94 into 109 – his seventh Test hundred.
Pacer Josh Hazlewood finished with four for 45 while off-spinner Nathan Lyon picked up three for 43 and seamer Peter Siddle, two for 36.
Following on by a massive 360 runs, West Indies were rolled over in under two sessions in just over 36 overs for a paltry 148, to concede defeat before tea.
Only opener Kraigg Brathwaite with a counter-attacking 94 showed any resistance, and was one of only three players to reach double figures.
The right-hander struck 13 fours and a six off 122 deliveries.
Speedster James Pattinson claimed five for 27 while Hazlewood supported with three for 33, as West Indies never recovered after slumping to 30 for five.
Australia lead the three-match series 1-0.
