Sweet Dimension the choice in JRTA trophy race
The Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy (JRTA) is carded to highlight the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park today.
A Restricted Allowance II call from among native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two races, the JRTA Trophy highlighter has attracted quite a good field of 16 going 1,200 metres for a purse of $768,000.
Carded as the final race on the programme, the JRTA Trophy race will go to post at approximately 5:00 pm, with the first post at 12:15 pm.
The other races on the card with feature status include the Dye Job Sprint, a quick dash going 1,200 metres for purse of $850,000; Andrew HB Aguilar Memorial Cup, a native-bred two-year-old call going 1,600 metres for a purse of $800,000; and the Seymour “Foggy” Mullings Memorial Trophy, a Restricted Stakes race for imported three-year-olds and upward (on winners of three) and maidens, and native-bred three-year-olds going 1600 metres, for a purse of $768,000.
The closing JRTA event could prove to be one of the most competitive races on the card, with the form of the runners not very consistent. Nonetheless, the winner can be expected to come from one of Man In Blue, Sweet Dimension, Turbo Machine Cat, Fire Alarm and King Within.
Fire Alarm, a promising three-year-old chestnut filly, has demonstrated on last that she has the capacity to test this opposition after twice been beaten by a livelier bunch in her last races. Fire Alarm, trained by Steven Todd for owners Blackpiece, will again be ridden by jockey Wesley Henry.
Man In Blue, a chestnut son of Miracle Man, is returning from a nine-month-plus respite and will do so quite fit,and will be partnered by jockey Shane Ellis who is chasing his second jockeys’ championship title for trainer Richard Azan.
Turbo Machine Cat is another who has been knocking loudly at the door for a second career win after going down by a neck on last.Turbo Machine Cat has returned to action after a seven-day respite, and even with the distance reduced could be much earlier on this occasion to get the nod from the apprentice’s claim of Andre Powell who replaces Wesley Henry in the irons.
Sweet Dimension is a consistent chestnut filly who is returning to action very fit after a week’s break. When last at the races, the filly made a gallant attempt to go all the way over 1,500 metres but faltered in the drive to finish third. However, with the distance reduced for today’s feature and Sweet Dimension being versatile, she could bring fitness into play and get her head in front where it does matter most. Trainer Patrick Lynch and jockey Shamaree Muir have a fairly good strike rate and could go one better with Sweet Dimension.
The top-weighted King Within is a consistent performer and he will be running at them for all that he’s worth inside the final hurdle with jockey Paul Francis up for trainer Cashbert Khwalsingh.
