What you think, you become
“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create”. This represents the philosophies of the forward-thinking young entrepreneur, Melissa Fullwood (
MF).
21-year-old Melissa Fullwood has been a self-employed make-up artist for over five years. She is also the founder of SuccessJa.com. This venture is an online source for content about business, personal improvement and entrepreneurship in Jamaica, and around the world.
Fullwood was recently awarded with a Bachelors of Science in Economics from the University of the West Indies Mona (UWI). Not long ago, teenBOSS (
TB) held a conversation with Fullwood in order to further understand her affairs.
TB: What inspired you to start your career?
: I was inspired to become a wedding makeup artist after watching wedding shows on TV. I then started to wonder about the process behind applying makeup. I started doing some research, and realized that there are many areas in the makeup business. I tried my hand at them all. However, I found that wedding/beauty makeup was where I really excelled. I still love to do it. In the same breath, I also had a passion for entrepreneurship. This passion had grown when I became the Vice President of the Entrepreneur Builder Club at UWI. I know a lot about business and online businesses in particular.

TB: What has been your most fulfilling experience thus far in your career?
MF: The most fulfilling experience in my career thus far was definitely when I met President Barack Obama. I was invited as a Youth Leader to attend the Town Hall Meeting at UWI with President Obama. At the end of the event, amidst the crowd, he shook my hand. It was nothing short of an honour to be there. It’s a moment that I will never forget.
TB: What are your long term life-goals? (10 years)
MF: In ten years, I will be 31 so I’d want to be married with a child or two. I also feel like I’ve been blessed to have a wealth of great experiences in business at such a young age. In ten years I hope that I’ll be in a position where I can give back some of that knowledge. Hopefully I’ll make the journey easier for someone else.
TB: What/ Who has been your greatest motivation thus far to help keep you going?
MF: My greatest motivator has absolutely been my mother. She has taught me everything I know about self-worth, being humble and being a strong woman. She is the epitome of a fighting spirit. I hope to always embody all that she has taught me. I’ve also seen many young people with great potential pass-away. So bearing in mind that every single day is a gift, gives me the strength to achieve more. It keeps me motivated.
