Has the glamour gone from H’View vs W’House?
NOT so long ago, any Waterhouse versus Harbour View game would be the match of the round or a top-of-the-table clash. But not so this time aroun, as both teams are struggling in the Red Stripe Premier League.
Waterhouse are fighting to climb out of the relegation zone, while Harbour View are bouncing around in mid-table.
Waterhouse, who last won the league in 2006, are currently second from bottom in 11th spot on 13 points from 14 games, while Harbour View — the 2013 champion — are seventh on 18 points, some 10 points adrift of the leader.
Both teams will be hungry for victory to, even at this late stage, kick-start their season. It is expected to be as tremendous battle at Drewsland Stadium, starting 3:00 pm.
The Stars of the East won the first-round fixture 1-0 on September 27, and another close encounter is expected.
Waterhouse will be looking to the likes of Richard McCallum, Nicholy Finlayson, Oshane Roberts, Sean Coleman, DeAndre Brown, Evan Taylor, Gary McIntosh, Kemar Beckford, Kenroy Howell, Romario Campbell and Andre Leslie for victory.
Devon Haughton, Ian Goodison, Rosario Harriott, Nicholas Beckett, Hugh Evans, Jorginho James, Odane Samuels, Keammar Daley, John-Ross Edwards, Claudious Blackburn and Kevaughn Frater will lead the Harbour View charge.
Meanwhile, leaders Portmore United and the University of the West Indies (UWI) FC will meet in an intriguing match-up at the Juici Park in Clarendon starting at 3:00 pm.
Portmore United, on the back of winning four of their last five games, with victories over Tivoli Gardens, Arnett Gardens, Montego Bay United and Rivoli United, have surged to the top of the league, opening up a two-point advantage on 28 points.
UWI have lost just once in their last five games and have climbed out of the relegation zone to be in ninth spot on 16 points, and sit just three points away from a top-five spot.
It was against Portmore United that UWI registered their first victory in the league, and they will be seeking another win as they march towards the top-half of the table.
Title favourites and second-placed Montego Bay United (26 points) host a Boys’ Town team, in eighth spot on 18 points, in what should be a fast-paced encounter at the WesPow Park starting at 3:00 pm.
Montego Bay won their first encounter 3-0 and revenge will certainly be on Boys’ Town’s mind, especially coming off a victory over champions Arnett Gardens last week.
Fifth-placed Reno, on 19 points, travel to sixth-placed Tivoli Gardens (18) as both teams try desperately to stay in touch with the leaders in their 3:00 pm encounter at the Edward Seaga Stadium.
Bottom-placed Rivoli United, with 11 points, and 10th-placed Cavalier (14) meet at Drax Hall in St Ann in the battle of the relegation strugglers.
On Monday, champions Arnett Gardens (23), in third spot, host fourth-placed Humble Lion (23) in a mouth-watering match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex at 8:45 pm.
