UWI outscore Rivoli in RSPL thriller
PROMOTED outfit University of the West Indies (UWI) FC continued to show improvement following a 3-2 victory over visitors Rivoli United in the Red Stripe Premier League match at Mona Bowl yesterday.
Anthony Greenland led UWI with a brace in the fifth and 56th minutes, and Patrick Brown got the other in the 23rd minute. The prolific Cory Burke got both goals for Rivoli United in the 13th and 31st minutes.
UWI provisionally moved up to ninth position on 16 points, while Rivoli United remain rooted at the bottom of the 12-team standing on 11 points.
The match opened at a frantic pace with end-to-end action as the hosts grabbed the early ascendancy when Greenland slotted past Marlon Henry in goal for Rivoli United.
But the visitors responded eight minutes later, courtesy of Burke. UWI got their noses back in front when Brown drove in a left-footer from the top of the 18-yard area.
The St Catherine-based Rivoli were not to be outdone, and went to the break on level terms when Burke converted from the penalty spot after Daniel Roberts was pulled down inside the area by Daniel Gilzene.
UWI notched the winner close to the hour mark when Greenland expertly finished.
