BOYS’ Town FC defeated Arnett Gardens FC 1-0 as a 35th-minute goal by Peter Keyes unlocked the Arnett Gardens defence in their Red Stripe Premier League match at the Barbican Stadium yesterday.

It was a brilliant goal constructed by the skilful Adrian King, who did good work before picking out the overlapping Xavean Virgo, who in turn, teed up Keyes to slot ‘home’.

It was a crucial win for the ‘Red Brigades’ as they picked up their fifth win of the season and climbed to 18 points, though they remained in eighth spot.

Following their fifth defeat of the season, the defending champions Arnett Gardens remained in third spot on 23 points.

It was also sweet revenge for the Andrew Price-coached Boys’ Town, who were hammered 0-4 in the first round by Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on September 20.

The stage was set for an unusual Trench Town derby — played miles away from Collie Smith Drive — but it was as intense as ever. It was an even game between the two rivals. Arnett created more chances, but failed to capitalise and they paid the price.

Meanwhile, Portmore United provisionally extended their lead atop the league to three points following their 0-0 draw with struggling Waterhouse FC at the Juici Park in Clarendon.

The promoted Portmore inched to 28 points, three more than Montego Bay United who are in action on Monday against Cavalier. Waterhouse stayed in 11th spot with 13 points.

At Frome, a Denmark Gillings strike in the 48th minute gave FC Reno a 1-0 win over Harbour View. Reno, which ended a 10-game winless streak, moved to 19 points, one ahead of Harbour View on 18 points.
