Trech Town set to rock
The Trench Town derby is expected to take centre stage today with Boys’ Town FC welcoming reigning champions Arnett Gardens FC to Barbican Sports Complex in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).
Kick-off is set for 3:00 pm.
Arnett Gardens, who swept to the title in emphatic fashion last season, are third in the 12-team standing with 23 points from 13 games. The Jerome Waite-coached team from St Andrew South has won three of their last five games, including a 2-0 home win over Cavalier SC in their most recent outing.
Under the guidance of their long-time Head Coach Andrew Price, Boys’ Town, located just down the road from Arnett, are eighth in the table with 15 points. Their 1-2 away loss to Tivoli Gardens FC last weekend was their second defeat in as many games.
The site of today’s clash brings an unusual dimension since it is several miles north of Boys’ Town base at Collie Smith Sports Complex. It is said that Boys’ Town have been trying to rehabilitate their home field after the long drought earlier this year left it short of grass. In the meantime, regardless of where these teams meet, football fans can expect plenty of passion and excitement.
At the Juici Park in Clarendon, the leaders Portmore United FC (27 points), who have won four games on the trot, welcome struggling former champions Waterhouse FC in a 3:00 pm encounter. To its credit, the Waterhouse team, lying 11th with 12 points, has not lost in the previous three RSPL games.
Also at 3:00 pm, Westmoreland-based FC Reno entertain Harbour View FC to Frome Sports Complex. Reno are seventh in the league with 16 points, while Harbour View are sixth with 18 points.
In yet another 3:00 pm start, last-placed Rivoli United FC (11 points) travel to the Mona Bowl to take on 10th-placed University of the West Indies FC (13 points).
In the 5:00 pm game at Effortville Community Centre, the hosts Humble Lion FC tackle Tivoli Gardens FC. Humble Lion are in fourth place with 20 points, while Tivoli Gardens are fifth with 18 points.
The live televised Monday Night feature game is set to see Cavalier SC host Montego Bay United at Stadium East.
Montego Bay, last season’s finalists, are second with 25 points, while inconsistent Cavalier are ninth with 13 points.
