Waterhouse squander lead to end with draw
WATERHOUSE sqandered an auspicious 2-0 lead when they allowed visiting Reno to draw level for a 2-2 finish in their Red Stripe Premier League second-round game at the Drewsland Stadium on Sunday.
Waterhouse, hoping to dig themselves out of a hole after being rooted at the bottom of the RSPL standing, went in search of their second home win on the trot. And before Reno could settle, the young striker Andre Leslie put them ahead.
Eleven minutes from the half-time break, the hosts increased their lead to 2-0. From a right-sided corner delivered by Romario Campbell with his left foot, the Reno defender Kirk Mullings decided to control the ball inside the six-yard box instead of clearing it urgently, which resulted in the ball falling into the path of Leslie who promptly converted for his second of the match.
Now two goals down, Reno became more determined and redoubled their efforts as they sought parity as Waterhouse’s tempo fell off somewhat.
Three minutes from the half-time interval Reno scored. For the goal, Kayce Bromfield upended a badly positioned Waterhouse goalkeeper, Richard McCallum, with a high shot.
It was not the first time Waterhouse had let home advantage slip from their grasp, and so it was as they gave way to Reno.
Bromfield once again beat McCallum with a high shot, this time from some 40 yards in the final minute of play.
Waterhouse are now on 12 points and 11th on the standing, while Reno are seventh with 16 points.
