MBU host UW
TUCKER, St James — UWI FC will make a historic trip to western Jamaica on Sunday when they face leaders Montego Bay United (MBU) in a second-round Red Stripe Premier League game at WesPow Park, set to start at 3:00 pm.
The UWI FC team was promoted to the island’s top league this season, and lost their only game played outside of the Urban Area – Kingston and St Andrew and Spanish Town – when they were beaten by Humble Lion at Effortville, Clarendon.
Montego Bay United, who are coming off a loss to Portmore United last Sunday, are still leading the points tables – on goal difference – ahead of Portmore United, and will be seeking to get back on a winning run and stay in the lead.
UWI FC are in 10th place on 12 points, just a place and a point above the relegation zone, and well away from Montego Bay United’s 24 points and league-leading 25 goals scored.
Montego Bay United will hope that strikers Dino Williams, who scored 10 times in the first round, and Allan Ottey are both available for the game after sitting out Sunday’s loss with injuries.
Despite the absence of a head coach since the resignation of Tim Hinkerson who returned to the USA two weeks ago, Montego Bay United will be confident going into the game after beating UWI FC 3-0 in their first game played in Kingston and a five-game unbeaten run at home.
Montego Bay United have also won their last three games at home and are expected to take out their frustrations against the UWI team that have won three games played, but are yet to find any consistency.
