Sakima, Tsetsi and Moncrieffe headline December fight night
FOREVER Young Promotions launched its first exhibition fight night last Thursday at its West Street location in downtown Kingston. The event is scheduled for the first Saturday in December, starting at 7:00 pm.
Professional boxers Sakima ‘Mr Smooth’ Mullings — WBC CABOFE Commonwealth Zonal champion, Devon ‘Concrete’ Moncrieffe — Wray & Nephew Contender champion, and Tsetsi ‘Lights out’ Davis — Wray & Nephew Contender runner-up, will all be fighting on the night.
Their opponents were not announced. Mullings and Moncrieffe, who were at the launch, promised a night to remember. They both said that they will be fit and ready to entertain the large crowd expected on the night. They implored their fans to come out and support the event.
Claude Sinclair, who spoke on behalf of the promoter Forever Young Promotions, said that the event was the beginning of a downtown revival as called for by Digicel’s owner Dennis O’Brien. He stressed that there will be ample parking (over 2,000 cars) and security for all who attend on fight night. He said that it will be an exciting event which will also feature entertainment and good food and drink.
Dunstan Whittingham, president of the Higglers’ Association, welcomed the event. He said it was an opportunity for higglers to benefit by selling related novelty items for the event. He also said that it will help to bring back the sanity, integrity and dignity to downtown Kingston. He made reference to the importance of downtown and the many businesses that are operating there such as Scotiabank, the Stock Exchange and others. He also said that it was important for people to have somewhere to go to in the evenings, especially in light of the heavy traffic in the area, as well as the fact that there are many communities downtown that need entertainment. Whittingham said that he felt sure that the higglers will support the event.
Wray & Nephew agreed to provide some support for the fight night.
