Cavalier, TG in dull draw
A dull and unenterprising second round opening Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game between 10-man Cavalier SC and Tivoli Gardens FC ended 0-0 at Stadium East, Monday night.
Four minutes from time, midfielder Jeffery Henry was expelled by referee Valdin Legister for his second caution.
Disappointed that Tivoli Gardens were unable to capitalise on a 10-man Cavalier team, Head Coach Christopher Bender explained: “Despite the sluggish nature of the play, we created enough scoring chances that could have given us victory. But I believed that the effect of losing 5-2 last week was playing on the minds of the players in the first half hence the below par showing.
“So at half time I sat the players down and said to them that we need to get our confidence back and play with a little more urgency in front of goal. The final result showed, however, that the urgency was not great enough as it did not come off quite as we had planned for when they (Cavalier) were down to 10 men we could have nicked it.”
Cavalier, on the other hand, were far from being the locomotive engine there were when nipping Harbour View in the bud at the penultimate minute of their game the previous week.
Head Coach Rudolph Speid explained: “I think the three games we played last week took its toll on us. And the absence of our lynchpin striker Chevone Marsh added to our lacklustre performance. On the other hand where we may have fallen down in our offensive thrust we nonetheless stood out in our defensive ploy to earn a point which shows a certain degree of balance in the team.”
