Gucci girl
AT 17 years-old, Tami Williams is racking up quite a résumé. This year, she has strut the catwalk for fashion powerhouses Calvin Klein, Dolce&Gabanna and Gucci.
Not bad for someone preparing for her CXC exams.
“I always want to be a supermodel. I am still in a daze at how fast things have been happening,” the 5-ft 11-inch model told the Jamaica Observer.
Born in Kingston, Williams grew up in rural St Elizabeth. She stepped in the spotlight four years ago after placing second in Saint International’s Fashion Face of The Caribbean.
She spoke of her quick jump in the fashion sweepstakes.
“The cover of French ELLE less than a year after I started was a real big surprise for me. If you told me I would be appearing in the Calvin Klein Collections, Dolce&Gabanna, Top Shop, and now Gucci campaigns, I would have said: ‘No way, that’s not possible in a year’. Now in the last show season, I walked for my dream show Chanel (in Paris) and that was amazing. I am very, very, happy,” she said.
Deiwght Peters, CEO of Saint International, gushed about his protégé’s inclusion in Gucci’s video and print campaigns.
“Tami has been a history-making model from the get-go and this latest milestone, taking a turn for Gucci on the runway and for their global print campaign, is testament to her global stature within the modeling industry,” he told the Observer.
Peters said the photo shoots took place in the historic, wine-rich region of Tuscany, Italy during July. It is scheduled to run internationally for seven months. Prior to that, Williams modeled for Gucci’s spring 2016 collection in Milan, Italy.
With six Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) subjects on cards for next year, the Quality Academic student said she remains grounded.
“I am living my dream thanks to my mother and agent Deiwght Peters. He made it all a reality. I also think I have learned that this is hard work but I have faith and I remain humble.”
