We are almost where we want to be, says Humble Lion coach
MAY PEN, Clarendon — “We are almost where we want to be,” said Coach Linval ‘Pala’ Wilson after his Humble Lion side clipped Boys’ Town 2-1 in midweek to ensure they will end the first round of the Red Stripe Premier League in the top four.
The central Clarendon outfit currently occupy third place on 18 points, the same as second-placed Portmore United — albeit with an inferior goal difference — and three adrift of leaders Montego Bay United.
They will close out their first-round schedule away to basement team Waterhouse (seven points) today.
“Our aim coming into the season was to be one of the front-runners at the end of the first round and, with one game to go, I would say we are almost where we want to be. After that game we will see where we are,” said Wilson.
And heading into the second round with their first-round target secured, Wilson said: “Our aim is to take over the lead heading into the third round and dominate the competition because we want to win a trophy this season. I think we have come of age, so we need to show that.”
He said their main concern at the moment is their goalscoring record.
“That is an area that we are always trying to improve,” he said. “Defensively, I think we are doing well, but we need to be much better in attack, so we are constantly doing work in and around the 18-yard box.”
Humble Lion, who have won five and drawn three of their 10 matches, are the best defensive team in the competition, having conceded six goals, but they have only scored eight times — the poorest record of any team in the top eight.
