Petersfield rock Port Antonio 3-0 with late blitz
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Petersfield went by Port Antonio 3-0 in their rescheduled Flow/ISSA daCosta Cup quarter-final game at Carder Park yesterday.
The game was originally set to be played on Wednesday, but a waterlogged field prevented play.
For Petersfield win, Donovan Brown (82nd minute), Romane Wright (92nd) and Okeil Brown (97th) were on target.
Playing under slippery conditions, both teams adjusted to the surface for the most part, but Port Antonio appeared to be enjoying the conditions more as they attacked regularly through Reynaldo Skervin, Javoy Belnavis, Ramone Russell and Gonoy Harrison.
Petersfield gradually came into their own, making threatening moves on the hosts’ goal, but failed capitalise on early chances.
With the game approaching an end and look set for a draw, Petersfield opened up Port Antonio in a 15-minute late blitz.
Winning coach Godfrey Drummond was pleased with his team’s late rally. “We weathered the storm in the first half (and) made some tactical adjustment at the end of the first half and it paid off,” he said.
Port Antonio coach Marlon Hylton, said: “It was just one of these games, we got our chances and did not utilise.”
