MBU host Waterhouse
TUCKER, St James — Tim Hankinson, coach of Montego Bay United (MBU), could make several changes to his starting team for this afternoon’s Red Stripe Premier League game against struggling Waterhouse at WesPow Park, set to start at 3:00pm.
Montego Bay United on Monday night salvaged a dramatic 2-2 draw against defending champions Arnett Gardens at the Montego Bay Sports Complex to lead the tables with 18 points and will host Waterhouse, who are struggling in last place on seven points from nine games.
In-form Montego Bay United should beat Waterhouse, who are coming off back-to-back losses, and Hankinson could use the opportunity to give some of his regular starters a rest, while giving some of his bench players playing time.
After a less than sparkling showing on Monday night by goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett, second-string goalkeeper Romaine Bowers could make his Red Stripe Premier League debut, Hankinson hinted on Monday.
Montego Bay United conceded two goals within 15 minutes during the second half, and while not directly blaming the goalkeeper who represented Jamaica in international competition up to last year, Hankinson admitted “there were mistakes made here tonight.”
He added that Bowers, who played the full 90 minutes against Panamanian team Arabe Unido in a CONCACAF Champions League game last month, could be one of the players who could be called upon to play today.
Red hot strikers Dino Williams and Owayne Gordon, who have combined for 14 goals, and who both scored on Monday evening, could start. There could also be places for Allan Ottey, who has been included in the national squad to face Panama in the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, as well as Kashief Brown in attack.
Ladale Richie, who was on the bench Monday after missing several games with injuries, could also return to the Montego Bay United line-up.
Montego Bay United will pit their potent offence, said to be the best in the competition with 19 goals scored, against one of the worst defences, as Waterhouse have conceded 11 goals in their nine games played so far.
Waterhouse have won in Montego Bay only once in the previous three seasons, a 2-1 margin in the 2012-13 season, and were thrashed 5-1 in the return leg of the semi-final last season.
Montego Bay United beat Waterhouse in the semi-final last year after beating them 5-2 in the final the previous season.
