Blood appeal
THE Rotaract Club of St Andrew (RCSA) will on Saturday, November 7, 2015 stage their annual Blood and Can Drive at the National Chest Hospital. The club aims to collect 50 units of blood and 100 cans. Collection will be from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Melissa Whyte, RCSA president is appealing for support from individuals and groups.
“A unit of blood can go a long way in saving lives, so this act of giving blood is an act of kindness and I hope a lot of people will be motivated to give blood,” she said.
People who are eligible to give blood are healthy individuals between the ages of 17 and 60 years old who weigh more than 110 pounds.
RCSA decided to focus on blood collection to help ease the on-going shortage of blood in the health service. Blood is needed to treat people with abnormalities, to replace blood lost due to trauma and surgical procedures, and for improving the quality of life of sickle cell patients.
The club is also appealing to people for can foods as well, which will be donated to the Balcombe Drive Primary and Junior High School’s Breakfast programme. Currently, the teachers and principal are the ones who are providing students with breakfast.
Rotaract is a professional service, leadership and community service organisation for young adults between the ages 18-30. It focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces.
