Arnett Gardens look to rebound when Waterhouse come calling
THe first live televised Sunday game of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season pits together perennial rivals Arnett Gardens and Waterhouse FC at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex at 6:00 pm.
In the other games; in-form Tivoli Gardens host Montego Bay United; Portmore United travel to FC Reno; Boys’ Town tackle Cavalier SC; and Humble Lion take on the University of the West Indies (UWI).
On Monday, Harbour View host Rivoli United.
Champions Arnett Gardens, who lost a 2-3 thriller to Tivoli Gardens last Monday, will be aiming to rebound against a Waterhouse team trying to move away from the relegation zone. Arnett Gardens are fifth on 10 points, while Waterhouse, who won their first game under new Coach Anthony Patrick, are 10th on seven points from seven games.
Arnett Gardens will be looking to the likes of the skilful Vishunel Harris, Newton Sterling, Andrew Phang, Marcelino Blackburn, Leon Strickland, Kemal Malcolm, Jason Moore, Oneil Thompson, and Dicoy Williams; while Waterhouse will look towards veteran Jermaine Anderson, Romario Campbell, Evan Taylor, Kenroy Howell and Nicholy Findlayson for victory.
However, the match of the day will be between red hot Tivoli Gardens and leaders Montego Bay United at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex starting at 3:00 pm.
Tivoli Gardens, who have won the last three games, are currently in third spot on 11 points, just three behind leaders Montego Bay United on 14 points, knowing very well a win could take them to the summit of the premier league.
Former Reggae Boy Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson has ignited the Tivoli Gardens outfit, and along with National Under-20 representative Junior Flemmings, they have formed a most potent force with Miguel Ricketts, Nicoy Christian, Rohan Reid and the emerging Rodrico Wellington.
Montego Bay United are proving that they will be the team to beat this season — boosting a powerful squad with the likes of Dino Williams, Allan Ottey, Dwayne Ambusely, Jermaine Woozencroft, Owayne Gordon, and towering goalkeeper Jacomena Barrett — and are fancied to steal three valuable away points.
Second-placed Portmore United on 14 points travel to fourth-placed FC Reno on 11 points in an intriguing encounter at the Frome Complex for a 3:00 pm kick-off. Home team Reno have not won in their last three games, while Portmore United will be aiming to end their two-game winless streak.
Bottom-placed Boys’ Town on six points tackle eighth-placed Cavalier SC on eight points in a crucial encounter at the Barbican field starting at 3:00 pm. Boys’ Town are really in danger of survival this season and will need to ease the mounting pressure on a frustrated coach Andrew Price.
Humble Lion, in seventh spot on nine points, will take on a UWI outfit in 11th spot on seven points. They are proving that they belong in top flight football. Match time is 3:00 pm at the Effortville Community Centre.
The promoted UWI, playing in their first premier league season, defeated Boys’ Town last week and will be bubbling with confidence against a tough Humble Lion outfit. But the home team is a hard-tackling aggregation and UWI are expected to succumb to the pressure.
On Monday, sixth-placed Rivoli United on 10 points travel to ninth-placed Harbour View on seven points in what should be a close and exciting encounter.
