Stage set for pulsating D’Cup quarter-finals
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The stage is set for what is shaping up to be a pulsating and exciting quarter-final round of the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup football competition with the release of the schedule yesterday.
Sixteen teams, including seven former champions as well as defending champions Clarendon College, will continue their quest for glory and a chance to lift the cup come Saturday December 5.
On paper, Group S — with four former champions: Clarendon College, Glenmuir High, Rusea’s and Dinthill Technical — looks the most competitive, as only the winners will advance to the semi-finals.
St James High and Manchester High are the top teams in Group P, while St Elizabeth Technical, who have shaken off their early-season jitters, look to be the class team in Group R.
On the other side of the coin, with some luck Petersfield High could be first time semi-finalists from Group Q as they are paired with Port Antonio High, who made it to the last four two years ago.
Petersfield qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Cornwall College in the daCosta Cup for the first time 4-3 on Tuesday to top Zone 1 with seven points, one more than Rusea’s High.
