Clarendon, Manchester advance to D’Cup quarter-finals
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — Clarendon College secured the point they needed to top their inter-zone group following a 0-0 draw with Munro College in ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup action yesterday at Juici Park.
The result was also good enough to earn them a place in the first round of the Flow Champions Cup, but the daCosta Cup champions were out of sorts in a frustrating first half here in south-western Clarendon. And despite an improved second-half display, they were unable to convert the chances they created.
Munro, who needed a win and help from elsewhere to advance, never looked likely to force more than the stalemate. And in the end, they were eliminated at the expense of Manchester High, who clipped Spalding High 1-0 at Kirkvine to finish second in the zone on six points.
Manchester advanced to the quarter-final round of the daCosta Cup, but will miss out on the lucrative Champions Cup for a second successive season. Back at Juici Park, coach Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis said while he’s pleased that his Clarendon College remain in contention for all four schoolboy football trophies, he nevertheless thought their performance was underwhelming.
He said: “I think we could have played much, much better, but this is football and the draw was good enough to top the zone on seven points. So we are thankful.” Despite the obvious disappointment, Munro coach Kevrol Stewart thought his team ended the season with a decent performance.
