Waterhouse score win on Patrick’s return
Waterhouse FC scored a hard-fought 1-0 win against Cavalier SC to give interim Coach Anthony Patrick a winning return in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game at Drewsland yesterday.
Kenroy Howell scored the winning goal in minute 29. The win pushed Waterhouse up to 10th on seven points, while Cavalier SC slipped a spot down to eighth with eight points.
Coach Patrick was pleased with the win: “It is always good to win. The main emphasis on preparation is to get a victory. We had a very good workout yesterday and it showed in the players’ approach for today’s game.”
Cavalier’s Coach Rudolph Spied was a bit disappointed with the loss. “I thought we played well enough to come away with something, but that is football. We can take some positives from this game as we started a number of first-time players. We just have to try and win our next game.”
Patrick, Waterhouse’s most successful coach in recent times, was replaced by Christopher Bender last season, but was called upon to stand in for former Reggae Boy Paul Young, who is reported to be the new coach at Drewsland.
To show their appreciation of Coach Patrick, who twice took the team into contention for a crack at the RSPL title, Waterhouse went at their opponents like hungry wolves. Cavalier SC, however, weathered the storm until, barely passing the halfway mark of the first half, Howell struck to give Waterhouse the lead.
Waterhouse should have struck within the first minute of the restart, but Andre Leslie failed to convert a simple chance from a rebound off the crossbar that fell at his feet.
