Defending champs CC lead 6 others into daCosta Cup quarters
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Defending champions Clarendon College led five former winners of the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup into the quarter-finals after scoring wins yesterday, their second in the inter-zone round to put themselves in the driver’s seat for places in the Flow Cup that starts next weekend.
St James High, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), Vere Technical, and Glenmuir High all won back-to-back games as well to ensure safe passage to the next round, while Lacovia High and Port Antonio also got back-to-back wins.
Glenmuir High continued their high-scoring ways with a 4-0 thrashing of Kemps Hill at Juici Field in Clarendon Park with Onando Collins scoring twice and Chase Myrie and the prolific Kevon Lambert getting one each.
Lambert has now scored in 10 straight games for Glenmuir, who are comfortable atop Zone Eight ,as Seaforth edged Bog Walk to be in second place.
At STETHS, the home team beat Lennon High 3-0, with goals from Michael Kerr, Shawn Genus and Neville Morgan, to lead Zone Three after Alston and deCarteret drew 1-1 at Kirkvine.
St James High got the better of a determined Manning’s School 1-0 at Jarrett Park, with Neil Clarke scoring the winner in the 49th minute after he had scored both goals in their 2-1 win over Spot Valley High on Wednesday.
They are atop Zone One after Frome Technical beat Spot Valley High 3-0 at Frome to be on four points.
Vere Technical edged Denbigh High 1-0 in Zone Seven to move to six points, while Paul Bogle drew level with Ewarton on three points after a 3-1 win.
Lacovia High continued to make waves with a 2-0 win over Annotto Bay to lead Zone Five, while Fair Prospect are back in the picture after edging Marcus Garvey 2-1.
Port Antonio High lead Zone Six after edging Islington 1-0, while Dinthill Technical revived their hopes with a 3-0 win over Brown’s Town.
Petersfield High were 3-0 winners over Herbert Morrison to lead Zone Two with four points ahead of Cornwall College on goal difference, who drew 0-0 with Rusea’s High in the late Jarrett Park kick-off.
Maliki Reid scored twice for Petersfield, while Akeel Brown got the other goal.
