U-20 Girlz coach grateful for win
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Jamaica Women’s Under-20 Head Coach Hue Menzies was grateful for the three points gained in Thursday’s 4-1 over St Vincent and the Grenadines in the opening Group B game at the Stade Sylvio Cator in the CFU Championship.
Though Jamaica won by such a wide margin, thanks to Captain Khadija Shaw’s three-timer, they were not always in charge against the St Vincent team.
“We’re not where we need to be, but we are thankful for the three points,” Menzies told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Trinidad & Tobago also have three points after coming from behind to beat Curacao in the other Group B game on Thursday.
On Friday, the Under-20 Reggae Girlz held a training session at a youth facility situated five minutes away from their hotel. The Jamaica coach expressed confidence the team will improve in the next outing versus Curacao on Saturday.
Their final group game is set to be against T&T on Monday.
Group A consists of hosts Haiti, Puerto Rico and Bermuda.
Two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals of the CFU tournament. The top three teams will progress to the CONCACAF Round set for Honduras in December.
