Perfect Neighbour has a really good chance in Alex’s Imports Gold Cup- Robert Halledeen
Perfect Neighbour has a glorious chance of winning the $1.6-million Alex’s Imports Gold Cup tomorrow, says in-form and title-chasing jockey Robert Halledeen.
Based on his preparations and class, Halledeen believes that Perfect Neighbour, trained by champion Wayne DaCosta, has all the credentials to win the Grade One event going over 1,400 metres, which is traditionally regarded as the top handicap race on the calendar.
“Right now, Perfect Neighbour is as fit as hands can make him be. He is consistent and running some good races. He has the capability and class to win a race such as the Gold Cup,” Halledeen told the Complete Racing Guide. “He has been training really well coming into this race and I expect him to run a very good race.”
Perfect Neighbour has won this year’s Prime Minister’s Stakes and Governor General’s Stakes, both over 2,000 metres, but the five-year-old dark bay horse by Natural Selection – Desperate Housewife was second best to Uppa Tune in the None Such Sprint Trophy in August over 1,200 metres.
“He ran well in that race. Uppa Tune was the lone speed in the race and he dictated the pace and kicked clear turning for home, but Perfect Neighbour was gaining in the last furlong to be beaten by a length and a quarter. That was 1,200 metres and now it is 1,400 metres and I believe with the extra 200 metres, Perfect Neighbour will have a better chance of winning,” affirmed Halledeen.
