10 ways ‘Old Twitter’ beats ‘New Twitter’ every time
With the updates applied to technology across the board, users of social media platforms often times complain that the update more often than not make the later versions far less appealing than the initial versions.
This reflects the cry of users of the Twitter platform who claim that old twitter was far better than the latest updates; in reference to both the interface and users in the community.
teenAGE Observer has compiled a list of the top 10 reasons why “Old Twitter” is better than the “New Twitter”
10. No longer easy to splice tweets.
Splicing was a method used to mischievously edit tweets with the aim of provoking or ridiculing the original text. Now twitter only allows users to quote directly or re-tweet a tweet.
9. Twitter jail was hard time.
The tweet limit of 100 per hour was a strict rule. Once a user surpassed this limit they would be jailed for hours. Now Twitter only jails the user until they are into the next hour interval which they can tweet. Annoying especially if you follow certain persons.
8. Facebook users migrating.
Twitter was always reliable as the place that would be void of the petty and immature behavior and ridiculous photo edits of social media. However lately several Facebook users have migrated to Twitter as the network grows and has made the community somewhat of social media ghetto.
7. Twitter Police Force
Completely unrelated to Twitter jail, several users have taken on the responsible of deciding what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour for twitter and have united to impose their standards upon the wider community. This often happens when trolling is taking place. Fun suckers they are!
6. Personalised backgrounds removed
Twitter was launched with users having the freedom to customize the background image of their homepage. While some of these were funny and informative, depending on nature, the blank white backdrop is more dull than ‘uniform’.
5.Jehovah Witness Promotions
Since Twitter has been announced as being the most interactive social media platform several promoters have been using the site to post party flyers and events. While it is a smart move, it is annoying especially when several users all spam the timeline; especially on Sunday, forcing you to pay keen attention.
4. More Spoilers than a Honda Show
Probably a pet peeve of every user. Due to the live audience and immediate feedback and interaction, users often tweet during series and movies to share their exuberance. This often times ruins the show for persons who have not yet watched the particular episode and robs them of the surprise element of an unexpected occurrence.
3. ‘xxPrettygurlXX/evabless’ syndrome
The handles and names now have a certain Facebookesque nature to them, where they were clever and all part of the jokes in the past.
2. Cultivated trends
In the past, you used to have a different, hilarious, trend almost every night. Now, if there’s a trend it’s probably linked to some agenda like feminism or blacktivism… (which leads us to number one). Whether it was #MavadoLyrics, or changing dancehall songs to gospel, the trends were spontaneous and entertaining. Some might make a comeback every now and then, and ever so often we might get a new one, but it’s really not the same.
1. The activists/hashtivists/people who know everything about social media are everywhere. Now, Twitter can be good for serious things, but that’s not all it’s good for. Back in the day one didn’t have think ‘hmm, whose feelings is this tweet going to hurt now’?
