West Kingston team crushes Waterhouse 4-0
A brace from Miguel Ricketts lifted Tivoli Gardens to an emphatic 4-0 victory over Waterhouse in the 2015/16 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at Edward Seaga Complex yesterday.
Ricketts netted in the 20th and 36th minutes, after Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson opened in the 15th, while substitute Rodico Wellington capped the win in the 74th minute.
The win has now provisionally moved the Western Kingston-based team up to fourth in the 12-team standings, on eight points, while Waterhouse remain in the lower half of the standings on four points.
The anticipation of a bustling encounter was justified early when referee Dwight Royal dished out three yellow cards just two minutes apart. Evan Taylor of Waterhouse, Junior Flemmings and Ranike Anderson of Tivoli Gardens were all cautioned in the fifth, sixth and seventh minutes, respectively.
On a different note, it was a fairly even contest as both teams signalled intentions and pressed for the early ascendancy. Waterhouse gradually looked the better of the two, but it was the hosts who opened the scoring against the run of play. Flemmings launched a menacing run down the right channel before releasing a cross to an unmarked Johnson to slot home.
Ricketts moved Tivoli further ahead five minutes later when he slipped past a defender and got off a shot which took a deflection and sent Richard McCallum in goal for Waterhouse the wrong way.
And sloppy defensive work by Waterhouse allowed Ricketts to notch his second goal when he picked up a long throw from Shavar Campbell and punished the opponents after being left unmarked to give Tivoli a 3-0 lead at the break.
It was end-to-end action at the top of the resumption, but the game gradually lost its venom up to the point where Wellington, who replaced Ricketts, held his composure and calmly slotted past McCallum to seal the win.
In another game, Kemar Bennett scored two last-gasp beauties to give Rivoli United a 2-0 victory over Humble Lion at Effortville.
