Potcheen, Uppa Tune head Alex’s Imports Gold Cup
TRAINER Harry Parsard, who is having his best ever season, dominates the provisional entries for the race described as the most potent handicap event on the local racing calendar, the Alex’s Imports – Gold Cup run over seven furlongs. The race is set for next Saturday.
Parsard has entered four horses in the race, Potcheen (57.0 kgs) Uppa Tune (57.0 kgs) Pete’swildone and this year’s St Leger winner Superluminal. Based on information from the racetrack it appears that Parsard will start Potcheen and Uppa Tune, with the latter being the
most accomplished performer this year. Based on appearances in the mornings, Superluminal is being prepared for the longer races, the Superstakes (10 furlongs) in November and the Diamond Mile (one mile) in early December.
Expect to see Omar Walker on Potcheen and more than likely Paul ‘Country’ Francis doing the steering on Uppa Tune.
Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta has entered the very consistent and in-form Perfect Neighbour (55.0 kgs) and the much improved and reliable foreigner Fortuneonehundred.
Horse-of-the-year Typewriter (56.0 kgs) is also present among the entries after only two runs this year, with trainer Spencer Chung probably using the Gold Cup as a building block for what he has already stated is the major objective, a repeat win in the Superstakes. Robert Halledeen is expected to guide Perfect Neighbour but the rider for Fortuneonehundred is not known as yet. Leading rider Shane Ellis, as usual, partners Typewriter.
The other entries in the race are the super fit and durable Uncle Taf, Phineas, Scoop Jordyne, and Puddy Pooh.
