Not a pretty picture

SCARLETT HALL, Trelawny — Notwithstanding the smiles on their faces, this is not a pretty picture. The bags of garbage beside these volunteers from the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), Spot Valley High School and Salt Marsh Primary School at Scarlett Hall in Trelawny, represented only a half of what they collected along a 1.2 kilometre stretch of the sea coast on International Coastal Clean-up Day, recently. They filled 24 bags weighing 48 pounds. The TPDCo team was led by Marline Stephenson-Dalley (second left), with support from Bernadette Maxfield (left), while the Spot Valley team was headed by science teacher Alecia Bigby-Smart (fourth in front) and principal Ivor Bailey (right). The annual beach clean-up, which is spearheaded nationally by the Jamaica Environment Trust, this year received some $7 million in sponsorship from the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), an agency of the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment. Support is also received from corporate Jamaica, volunteer groups and individuals.

MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) joined several other organisations, including the Montego Bay and Mount Alvernia high schools, the Montego Bay Marine Park and Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf in a clean-up along a section of Howard Cooke Boulevard coastline on International Coastal Cleanup Day, recently. Seen here getting her fingers dirty is TPDCo regional manager, Kenya Keddo-Laing, along with team members Tashorn Hill and Shaneil Robinson.
