‘Remotes’ raring to rev
LAST weekend’s torrential showers may have forced the cancellation of the JAMROCK Remote Control Car Club (JRRCCC) Fun Day on Sunday at its home circuit, Sovereign Centre on the Boulevard, Washington Boulevard. However, it’s all systems go for this Sunday’s 2-Hour Nitro GT Endurance Race.
Racing will start at 1:00 p.m.
“The club came up with this as a way to build team spirit,” Franklin Thomas, JRRCCC director of promotions, told Auto.
The fun day was also set to serve as a litmus test for those participating in the endurance event. Thomas indicated that there are already five teams registered to go. Teams can have a minimum of two drivers and three members to a maximum of four. While the event is free for the public, there is a cost for team registration.
“The endurance race showed merit last year and we thought that it can only seek to improve the strength of the club,” Thomas said.
The event, now in its second year, will see the 1:8 scale Nitro GT cars. However, in 2014 the 1:10 scale Nitro Touring cars were introduced.
“We decided to alternate the classes. However, we will only do it with the Nitro class cars because they’re strong and take more abuse,” he said.
Returning to the fold is the triple threat of 2014 winners, Team .5, led by Denise Clarke, JRRCCC president.
“It took teamwork, good, fast pit stops, consistent driving and stamina,” Clarke said.
Even though it’s a different class this year, she expects that the same strategy will produce similar results on Sunday.
