No mercy as RM cages begging drug mule
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man, who said he was ‘trying a thing’ when he attempted to export more than two pounds of ganja in his stomach, was fined and imprisoned in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Lanchester Daley was fined and sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps to export ganja.
Daley was busted after being stopped and searched while attempting to board a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he expelled 16 pellets of ganja weighing two pound four ounces.
“Any reason why you shouldn’t go to jail?” Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked.
“Yes, Your Honour. Mi try a likkle ting. Is di first and last. I am asking for a little leniency,” he replied.
“I wish I could be so forgiving. When you try a thing, sometimes it work and sometimes it don’t work. This never work,” Pusey said.
Daley was subsequently fined $9,000 or six months for possession of ganja, $18,000 or six months for dealing in ganja, $46,800 or six months for taking steps to export ganja.
In addition to the fines, he was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
