Lambert leads Palmer’s XI fightback
Former national cricket captain Tamar Lambert ended yesterday on 74 not out as Paul Palmer’s XI reached 226-5 in reply to John Campbell’s XI’s score of 350 in the Jamaica Scorpions three-day trial match at Sabina Park.
Scores: Campbell’s XI 350 (86 overs); Palmer’s XI 226-5 (89 overs).
Lambert, who batted at number four, hit nine fours and two sixes off the 200 deliveries he faced during a patient knock.
The veteran player is expected to resume this morning in the company of wicketkeeper/batsman Aldaine Thomas, who is on two.
Palmer, the left-handed opener, made 45, while all-rounder Ravmon Powell chipped in with 36.
Left-arm finger spinner Nikita Miller claimed 2-26 off 17 overs.
Off-spinner Ramaal Lewis, who left the field with an injured shoulder, and pacers Brian Buchanan and Marquino Mindley all took one wicket.
Earlier, Campbell’s XI added only four runs after resuming from their overnight score of 346-9.
Number three batsman Andre McCarthy, who was on 159 overnight, stood tall with 163 not out, while wicketkeeper/batsman Carlton Baugh struck 94. The pair added 156 runs for the third wicket on Wednesday’s opening day.
Part-time off-spinner Lambert took 2-19 off eight overs, while left-arm finger spinner Coi Thompson had 2-44 off 18 overs. Medium pacer Ravmon Powell and leg-spinner Damion Jacobs also ended with two wickets each.
Today’s third day is set to start at 9:30 am.
