Ruthless Manchester crush Winston Jones for big D’Cup win
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Manchester High recorded the widest margin of victory in schoolboy football this season after putting 20 unanswered goals past daCosta Cup minnows Winston Jones in Mandeville yesterday.
Having formalised their inter-spot at the weekend, Manchester fielded a much-changed line-up against last-placed Winston Jones, but getting the point they needed to top Zone F was never in doubt.
They led 8-0 at half time and added another 12 goals in the second half, with captain Romaine Walsh leading the demolition with a six-timer.
His strike partner Duhaney Williams also netted four times, with Kimani Blake, Jarvis Mattis, Marlando Maxwell, Jevaughn Bailey and Kemar Whyte adding further goals in what was truly an embarrassingly lopsided contest.
This result means Manchester High have now recorded the widest margin of victory in both the Manning and daCosta Cup competitions this season. The previous best was Clarendon College’s 13-0 demolition of Kellits High.
The Donovan Duckie-conditioned outfit also improved their 100 per cent win record to nine games, while tallying an unassailable 27 points at the top of Zone F.
Assistant coach Omar Oxilly, who sat in for the absent Duckie, said: “Last year we had a big issue with goalscoring, so we did some work in that area this season and this is the result.”
Meanwhile, Winston Jones’ Eyon Williams said his “young team” will learn from this frightening experience.
He said: “Most of them are playing competitive football for the first time, so I am sure they will learn from something this frightening experience.”
