Lennon optimistic despite daunting inter-zone prospects
MOCHO, Clarendon — Despite slipping further behind in the race for the two inter-zone spots, Lennon High daCosta Cup coach Merron Gordon remains hopeful that his side can secure qualification from Zone H.
Following Monday’s 1-1 draw with leaders Clarendon College in Mocho, Lennon trail second-placed Edwin Allen by two points, which means they now have to win their two remaining games and hope for favourable results elsewhere to secure automatic inter-zone qualification.
But even though their destiny is no longer in their hands, Gordon is optimistic going forward. “We definitely need to win the next two games, so that is the plan,” said Gordon. “From we lost to Edwin Allen we had it in mind that if we are going to drop any more points it must be against the team at the top.
So now we definitely need to go out there, work hard and get six points from those two games.” Regarding the overall picture of their season, Gordon said: “To be honest, I am a bit disappointed with the position we are in now.
“We started out poorly in terms of performance; we got results here and there. But such is football. We just have to keep working hard and believe in ourselves.” Lennon host Kellits High today, before they travel to Edwin Allen on Saturday.
