Port Antonio clip Titchfield 2-1
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Port Antonio High continued their dominance of Zone L in the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup competition when they edged Titchfield High 2-1 at Carder Park on Saturday.
Javoy Belnavis gave the victors the lead in the 71st minute, and Ramone Russell sealed the win in the 90th+2 after Dwight McKenzie had pulled Titchfield High level in the 80th.
Both teams traded attacks early on through Joel Green-Burke and Dwight McKenzie for Titchfield, but the alert Port Antonio defence, through Captain Kevaughan Smith, held them at bay.
Port Antonio had to make a forced change early when Kemoy Gillespie had to be taken out six minutes into the game after a head collision with Titchfield’s Odane Jocks. The latter returned with a bandaged head from a wound.
Port Antonio were denied by the crossbar midway in the second half when Ramone Russell’s shot from just inside the penalty area beat Osbourne, but hit the inside of the crossbar before it was cleared by defender Javon Hyde.
Shortly after, the deadlock was broken when Javoy Belnavis picked up a ball outside the penalty area down the right flank, and moved inside where he dismissed a defender before firing to the left of Osbourne.
However, Titchfield were on level terms when Dwight McKenzie scored directly from a corner.
Port Antonio got the clincher in added time when the hard-working Ramone Russell received a pass from Malique Higgins before dislodging it in the net.
In the other game in the zone, Fair Prospect edged Buff Bay 2-1.
