Five rules for lending and borrowing money
So every now and then we all get into some budget issues. The funds run low sometimes. And sometimes our friends can be there to help us until we can pay them back. But, money can end friendships.
So here are some tips for lending and borrowing money, so that you don’t end up in any trouble like getting ‘loud up’ on social media or anything.
1. Never let the person have to ask for their money back. Set a date for repayment. If you cannot make that date, call BEFORE it elapses, to apologise and reschedule.
2. Don’t make a habit of taking ‘a bills’ and other small sums, without paying people back. Unless that is the nature of your relationship and you both do it sometimes, avoid this.
3. When lending, be clear to the borrower when you intend for them to pay you back.
4. Be upfront about when you can pay your friend back. Don’t set a date in hope that you’ll be able to pay back. Be sure that you’ll be able to.
5. This might be the most important one. Don’t, and especially don’t let your creditor have to see you doing extravagant or unnecessary things like partying when you know you have a tab with them.
