Waterhouse woes continue
THE battle between former champions Harbour View and Waterhouse to get their first win of the 2015/2016 Red Stripe Premier League season went to Harbour View who clipped the Drewsland-based side 1-0 in a lacklustre affair on Monday night at Compound.
It was both teams’ fourth match of the season with Harbour View drawing their three previous games. However, the defeat for Waterhouse puts them in dire straits as they could muster only a point from their four games after one draw and three defeats.
Following one of several stormy attacks on the Waterhouse goal, Rosario Harriott broke the deadlock in the 71st minute with a scrambled goal that gave the Stars of the East their first win of the season.
Harbour View coach Ludlow Bernard offered at game’s end: “All that I can say it’s good to be off the mark.”
Losing coach Calvert Fitzgerald admitted that Waterhouse’s position at the bottom of the standings is not a comfortable place to be.
“It is hard for a top team as Waterhouse to be at the bottom of the table. But it is still a work in progress. This is the best team we managed to put together for the season and were unlucky not to have scored from the chances that we created,” he lamented.
Waterhouse midfielder Romario Campbell, making his first appearance of the season, said all is not lost.
“One should not despair. This is not the end of the season, it is the beginning. If you noticed we came out and played some decent football in the first half, but we never capitalised on the chances that fell to us. And that hurts.
“This is my first match of the season (as) I was away and I have just returned so I am not yet at my best. And this, I expect, too, is the situation with a number of my teammates.
“We are at the foot of the table with a stiff task ahead of us (and) there is no time to be laid-back now. We have to be every day at training as we just have to continue to work much harder,” Campbell added.
