Denbigh growing in confidence, says Wilson
DENBIGH, Clarendon — Buoyed by Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Zone M front-runners Glenmuir High, coach Linval ‘Pala’ Wilson is now backing his Denbigh High team for an inter-zone spot in this season’s daCosta Cup competition.
That stalemate, coupled with Garvey Maceo’s surprise 2-1 loss to basement team Porus High, means Denbigh are now second in the group on four points.
And with three games left to complete their schedule, Wilson thinks a second- round berth is within reach.
“That’s definitely where we are looking now,” said Wilson. “And that 1-1 draw with Glenmuir kind of built our confidence, so we are looking toward to our next game.”
He added: “We only have four players who ever played daCosta Cup before, so you can see that it’s a young team. But we are trying our best to keep them focused, and I think they are getting more competitive. So I would say we are growing.”
Denbigh play away to Garvey Maceo on Wednesday looking to reverse their 2-1 first-round defeat to the ‘Cubans’, who sit just below them on three points.
