Williams’ brace propels MBU 3-0 over Boys’ Town
AN early goal from Montego Bay United’s (MBU) marquee striker Dino Williams sparked a 3-0 humbling of Boys’ Town in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) fifth-round match at the Barbican playing field on Sunday.
Montego Bay United were winning for the second time in the RSPL from three games while losing once.
Anxious to be among the top competitors in the league, MBU wasted little time going for the jugular of a battling Boys’ Town, and Williams was on target after only eight minutes into the match.
However, despite the early setback Boys’ Town refused to give in and began to run at the visitors with goalscoring intentions of their own.
With Boys’ Town’s failure to produce goals from those promising forays the momentum shifted to MBU who proved to be more selective and came close to increasing their lead.
Even so, when the run of play shifted to MBU, Boys’ Town were keen enough to keep them out with good defensive play from Victor Thompson, Pierre McPherson, Rupert Murray, and Kimarley Fray on the left putting up blunting rear-guard action, and whatever escaped that cordon, goalkeeper Kirk Porter was alert enough to mop up.
The problem that faced Boys’ Town throughout the game, and more so in the first half, was that of keeping possession to inhibit the visitors’ advance.
Failure to do so produced a second goal before the break as Williams was allowed to dribble his way past defenders to score for the second time.
Boys’ Town returned for the second half a much better opposition, but, while they were a more cohesive unit with prospects of saving the game, their poor finishing again ruined their chances.
With their play rife with inconsistencies, Boys’ Town only succeeded in giving up another goal as Owayne Gordon was on target 20 minutes into the second half. This, along with the loss of the promising left-sided Kimarley Fray to injury for the final 25 minutes summarily condemned Boys’ Town to their second defeat for the season.
Fray was admitted to the University Hospital of the West Indies with what appeared to be a fractured jaw.
