Lacovia, York Castle target D’Cup summit
LACOVIA, St Elizabeth — Lacovia High and York Castle could take over the lead in their respective zones as the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup football competition continues with four games today, three of them rescheduled.
The York Castle vs Steer Town game in Zone I is an originally scheduled match-up, while Maud McLeod vs Mannings in Zone D, Lacovia vs Munro College in Zone E and St Thomas Technical vs Morant Bay High in Zone O are rescheduled encounters.
Lacovia High lost for the first time on Saturday, beaten 4-0 by St Elizabeth Technical and dropped to third place on 10 points, one behind BB Coke High and STETHS.
Today, Lacovia will hosts a Munro College team coming off back-to-back wins, but have scored just three goals, all coming in the last two outings after failing to score in their first three games.
Lacovia High are unbeaten at home this year, while Munro are yet to earn a win away from their “home field” at Alpart.
York Castle are second in Zone I on 10 points, two less than leaders Marcus Garvey and will face Steer Town who are in fourth place on five points and should win.
St Thomas Technical are on six points and could move to second in Zone O if they can beat fourth-placed Morant Bay High.
Paul Bogle High lead with 15 points from their five wins with Seaforth in second place on seven points.
In Zone D, Maude McLeod could join Godfrey Stewart High in second place on seven points if they can beat Mannings School who are in fourth place on three points.
Both teams are battling for respectability in the zone that still looks to be wide open.
