Arnett stumble for Lion to pounce at Effortville
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Ten-man Humble Lion clipped title holders Arnett Gardens 1-0 at the Effortville Community Centre yesterday to record their first home win of the Red Stripe Premier League season.
Francois Swaby, after good footwork in the box, rifled home the winner from close range in minute number five.
But Humble Lion had to play the last 51 minutes of the game with 10 men after Gregory Lewis was ejected in the 39th for a second bookable offence.
It was their third red card in as many matches, yet the man disadvantage didn’t seem to hurt them much.
They kept a surging Arnett at bay and were a bit unlucky not to increase their lead, as Swaby’s looping header crashed into the cross bar.
The victory means Humble Lion, unbeaten in three games, increased their tally to seven points, which is good enough to keep them in the top half of the 12-team league.
Arnett, in the meantime, were suffering a second successive defeat on the road. The defending champions remain on six points.
“This was a very good win for us,” said Humble Lion coach Linval ‘Pala’ Wilson.
“Going down to ten men so early in the game and was still able to get the win against the defending champions shows that we have some fight in us.”
