Hey fashionable friends, it’s almost that time again, those glorious five hours on October 1st. Five glorious hours of retail shopping, discounts and bargain hunting await you. Yes! I am referring to Jamaica Observer ‘Takes Style Out’ that will be held across the island on October 1st 2015. What more could a trendy teen ask for?

There are some precautions that must be taken in such a grand shopping spree however, so whether you are a new or returning shopper, below are a few tips for you. This is your weekly dose of rash-on Fashion.

Remember the fashion trends and climate. Don’t buy only because it’s on sale. Remember the designs and styles of fall and the deep rich colours that go with it. Don’t be intimidated by the array of things before you. Put fashion hat and think, think, think. Ensure that when you’ve finished shopping you’re still a fashionista and not a colourful clown.

Also ensure that you shop for bargains. Walk with a notepad and jot down prices as you go along. Don’t settle for the first pair of stilettos you encounter, maybe something more economically viable is around the corner. So shop around and compare prices; make sure you get the best for less.

As I am always saying and I’m sure your mom does too, shop for quality over quantity. Next week Thursday don’t just buy things because they are cheap and you might be able to get great discounts. Go for quality, one pair of shoes may be worth more in durability than a ‘buy one, get five free’ package.

Be aware of your surroundings. Everyone is not out to shop, some are just pickpockets ready to rob and grab. Watch out for these crooks, keep your bags and purses safe. It is also best to go cashless. Most, if not all businesses have a debit/credit machine, so make use of this and keep safe.

Finally, wear comfortable shoes. This may seem trivial but it’s uber important. Places will be jam-packed and parking impossible. Lines will also be unbearable so be prepared. Wear relaxing, comfortable shoes that can take the pressure; so forget the stilettos and rock some flats.
