Glenmuir ease past lowly Porus in D’Cup
TOLL GATE, Clarendon — Zone M frontrunners Glenmuir High thrashed Porus High 5-0 yesterday at Juici Park to record back-to-back victories in the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup competition.
The game was only three minutes old when Leroy Bryant gave Glenmuir the lead, slipping the ball past the advancing Porus goalkeeper.
A fine solo effort from Chase Myrie made it 2-0 after 16 minutes, prompting the Porus coach, Melvin Morrison, to make a goalkeeping change before half-time.
But not even that tactic could mask the huge gap between the sides as Glenmuir cruised to victory with more goals in the 35th (Kevon Lambert), 38th, and 60th minutes (Onando Collins).
With the win Glenmuir consolidated their place at the top of the group on six points, three more than Garvey Maceo who beat Denbigh High (also on three points) at the Effortville Community Centre.
Porus, in the meantime, remained in the cellar position without a point after two games.
“It was a good performance,” said the Glenmuir technical director Patrick ‘Jackie’ Walters. “We probably could have got a few more goals, but that’s the nature of the game.
“We are right where we want to be, and to score five goals in a game is always a plus, irrespective of the opponent.”
