Williams scores twice as Manchester stay perfect
M A N D E V I L L E , Manchester — Manchester High blanked 10-man deCarteret College (DC) 2-0 yesterday in Mandeville to maintain their perfect start in Zone F of the ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup competition.
Playing at home, Donovan Duckie’s side looked purposeful from the start and duly went ahead in minute 17 when Duhaney Williams poked home the first of his two goals from close range.
But, with DC growing in confidence, Manchester had to wait until midway the second half for their second goal; Williams slotting in Romaine Walsh’s through pass to complete his brace.
By this time, however, DC were playing with a man less after Lucien Bartley was ejected on the stroke of half-time for dangerous foul play.
This was Manchester’s fourth win in as many matches, with their 12 points keeping them at least three clear of the chasing pack. “This was a good win for us,” said Duckie.
“This is the only team we have played that was really technically organised. They played in a defensive block and that frustrated us. “As the game progressed we got better, but we weren’t clinical enough.”
