Portmore coach on cloud nine with dream start
GEOFFREY Hewitt, head coach for Portmore United Football Club (FC), said that he is pleased with his team’s start to the 2015/2016 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season.
The former champions defeated Montego Bay United 2-0 in their opening match before edging Rivoli United 1-0 in the St Catherine Derby at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Sunday courtesy of a 25th-minute strike from Iishmale Currie.
“Yes, most definitely this was the result we wanted. This is a dream start to the season so far and we just want to continue on the winning ways from here on,” Hewitt told the Jamaica Observer.
“Each game we play we intend to get three points and we are very thankful for the three points that we actually got against Rivoli United on Sunday,” he added.
Hewitt said that their next game against Cavalier next week will result in a win for Portmore United.
“The team has declared that they want to win as many games as possible, so our next game against Cavalier next week we are going with the intention of winning. We want nothing less than a win there,” he declared.
As to Portmore’s chances of becoming RSPL champions once again, Hewitt is under no illusions about the immensity of such a task.
“We are trying to take it one game at a time. We just want to focus each time on the game that is coming up and not trying to look too far ahead of ourselves, we don’t want to get carried away or anything like that,” he ended.
