Portmore hunt second win in RSPL
PORTMORE United will be out to prove that their opening day win against Montego Bay United was no fluke when they travel to the Prison Oval to play Rivoli United for a 4:00 pm game as the Red Stripe Premier League continues today.
In the other four games: Boys’ Town host Tivoli Gardens at the Barbican Complex; Harbour View travel to Clarendon to face Humble Lion; FC Reno host Waterhouse; and the University of the West Indies (UWI) take on Montego Bay United. All games are set for 3:30 pm starts.
Former champions Portmore United, who made a winning return to top-flight football last week, could notch their second win against Rivoli United and remain at the top the leaderboard, even if for one day.
Rivoli United are no pushovers as evident by their battling 0-0 draw with Waterhouse, and could utilise their home advantage and secure their first win of the season.
Former champions Montego Bay United, who were shocked 0-2 by Portmore, should rebound with a vengeance against new boys UWI. Both teams suffered opening day defeats, but despite UWI’s 0-3 loss to Arnett Gardens, they looked a much better unit than the scoreline suggested. Now playing at home, they could show their real mettle with a more positive display at the UWI Bowl.
Last season’s semi-finalists Humble Lion will also be aiming to rebound from their opening day loss in a tough encounter against Harbour View at the Effortville Community Centre. Both teams are loaded with talent, but the edge should be with the home team.
FC Reno, who edged Humble Lion last week, face another difficult opponent in Waterhouse at Frome and will be looking to add another top-notch scalp early in the season.
Meanwhile, miles away from their home base, Boys’ Town will be hosting Tivoli Gardens at Barbican Complex in what should be an exciting game. Both teams are on a single point and are gunning for their first win of the season.
On Monday, Arnett Gardens travel to Stadium East for their second night game, having brushed aside UWI 3-0 last Monday.
