Destiny sounds off next Friday
THE soundtrack for the movie Destiny is slated for release on the Tuff Gong International label next Friday. However, pre-orders are available on iTunes.
Produced by veteran reggae producer Clive Hunt and co-produced by Dwain ‘Wiya’ Campbell, the album boasts 10 artistes including the film’s stars Christopher Martin and Karian Sang, as well as known Jamaican acts Busy Signal, Tifa, and Spice. Paris-based reggae artiste Bazil, as well as Garnet Silk Jr, Montego Bay’s Yahsha, AC&Wiya, and Angele Smith are also featured on the album.
“Tuff Gong is proud to be a part of another milestone in Jamaican entertainment. With this authentic Jamaican production, Jeremy [Whittaker] is sharing a slice of Jamaican life. Destiny has ruled the local box office and will no doubt attract a global following, and we look forward to a successful partnership,” said Cedella Marley, CEO of the Marley Group.
Whittaker, CEO of Grasshopper Music Entertainment, is producer and director of the movie Destiny. He is also the set’s executive producer.
Whittaker has high hopes for the album.
“I believe this soundtrack is one of the best original compilation reggae albums out in recent times, and it definitely can stand on its own legs separate and apart from the film,” he said.
Costing just under US$1 million, Destiny was shot in Jamaica with additional footage in Canada. The plot is based on Lisa (played by Jamaica-born, Canada-based Karian Sang) who visits Jamaica from Toronto, Canada, to sell her family’s estate. She gets involved with Sean, a recording artiste (played by singer Christopher Martin), and reconnects with her family.
