Grange hails Rodriquez
OPPOSITION spokesperson on information, culture, entertainment and sports, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, has expressed regret at the passing of pioneer trombonist Rico Rodriquez.
She said that, despite the fact that Rodriquez had spent most of his adult life in England, he had left an indelible stamp on early Jamaican music.
The Opposition spokeswoman said that Rodriquez’s passing is another loss to Jamaican music, but suggested that he has left enough of his works behind to inspire young Jamaicans who may be interested in the trombone, or instrumental music in general.
“I grieve with his family and friends over his passing, but I am happy that he has left behind a huge legacy which will continue to promulgate our music and our culture, and help to increase the potency of our Brand Jamaica,” Grange said.
