HWT celebrates Bolt’s 200-m win
JUBILANCE filled Half-Way-Tree yesterday as a crowd gathered to watch Usain Bolt in the 200-m finals of the IAAF World Championships in the Bird’s Nest in Beijing, China.
They were not disappointed as Bolt clocked a world-leading 19.55 to claim the sprint double — bringing his World gold-medal tally to 10. The sprint icon defeated the embattled American Justin Gatlin, who was unbeaten, and favoured to win coming in to the Championships.
As Bolt crossed the finish line to claim his fourth 200-m World Championships title, the fans — assembled where South Odeon Avenue and Suthermere Road meet Constant Spring Road — erupted, with the assistance of the obligatory pot covers and branded thundersticks.
