How To…
Hey teenAGERs! Summer is winding down but there is still lots to do and try. I’m talking about Tie Dye. It’s pretty simple and might leave you nostalgic.
Things You’ll Need: multiple packets of dye, white t-shirt(or anything else you want to dye), salt, a couple basins (be aware that plastic basins stain easily), water, tongs, plastic bags, gloves and cord/rubber bands.
Step 1: Soak the t-shirt in warm water for 10 minutes.
Step 2: Tie the t-shirt in multiple sections with the cord or elastic band. Make sure you tie it really really tight or it won’t come out well.
Step 3: Heat water and throw it in the basin.
Step 4: Mix one pack of dye to each basin according to the instruction on the package. Add some salt for colour enhancement.
Step 5: Dip each section of the material into a different colour. If you only used two colours just alternate.
Step 6: Using tongs remove it and leave it a plastic bag for 4-6 hours. Leave it out in the sun for best results.
Step 7:Remove it from the plastic bag and cut the cord/rubber band. Wash the excess dye out of the shirt.
Step 8: Wash it with a bit of soap and hang to dry.
Once you get the hang of it you’ll get addicted. You could tie dye shirts , pillow cases among a myriad of other things. Have fun!
