#BEIJING2015: Williams sisters hurdle into 100mH final
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Williams sisters surmounted the barriers to book their spots in the final of the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the 15th IAAF World Championships now under way in Beijing, China.
When Danielle and Shermaine line up next on the track of the Bird’s Nest National Stadium at 8:35 am, they will face one more hurdle in their quest for podium spots.
In the first semi-final heat, national champion Danielle stopped the clock at 12.58 seconds, smashing her personal best 12.69. She was followed across the line by American Sharika Nelvis (12.59s).
“I was just focusing on the execution and basically giving it my all,” Danielle said after the race. “It’s an amazing feeling. I am going to give it my all. Whatever the outcome, I am happy.”
She enters the final as the fastest qualifier.
Her sister Shermaine then finished second in her semi-final heat in a time of 12.86 seconds to advance to the final. She trailed American Brianna Rollins who won the race in 12.71 seconds.
Kimberly Laing, the other Jamaican semi-finalist, failed to advance after finishing fifth in a time of 13.00s in her heat.
The other finalists are: Britain’s Tiffany Porter (12.62s); Alina Talay of Belarus (12.70s); Germany’s Cindy Roleder (12.79s); and Switzerland’s Noemi Zbaren (12.81s).
