#BEIJING2015: Disruptions mar men’s 110mH but Jamaicans advance to semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Omar McLeod clipped his first set of hurdles but managed to finish second in the first heat of the men’s 110-metre hurdles at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.@ObserverLive.
The Jamaican struggled to maintain his rhythm in lane four after Trinidad’s Mikel Thomas, running next to him in lane three, crashed into his first hurdle and disrupted the athlete’s race.
However, he came through to book his place in the semi-finals in a time of 13.43 seconds behind Shane Braithwaite of Barbados, who stopped the clock at 13.28 seconds.
McLeod’s compatriot Andrew Riley took the track at the Bird’s Nest National Stadium next, but the start to his race was delayed after American Ronnie Ash false-started and refused to leave the track.
Ash eventually accepted his disqualification but when the men were set to go, there was another false start. This time the false start was by Petr Svoboda of Czech Republic, who did not protest but left the track immediately.
When the race finally got off, Riley finished second in 13.43 seconds. His heat was won by France’s Pascal Martinot-LaGarde in a time of 13.35 seconds.
Hansle Parchment, the third Jamaican gunning for a spot in the semi-finals, comfortably won his heat in a time of 13.33 seconds.
